Become the talk of the town!
As you may know, we specialise in helping small/mid-sized businesses improve their online identity. However, having a great website is only part of the equation, if you really want to start generating traffic you need to invest in SEO. So what is local SEO?
Most small to mid-sized businesses primarily conduct business locally. Rather than emphasising broad and general keywords, we focus on keywords associated with your home town and surrounding areas. For example, let’s say that you have a business that sells and repairs computers based in Northampton. When we are constructing/redesigning your website, we make sure relevant keywords are used in conjunction with your location and the areas you service. If someone searches for “computer repair”, don’t expect your website to be a top hit—not any time soon at least, that’s a very competitive market. However, if someone Google’s “computer repair Northampton”, the likelihood of getting to the top of Google increases significantly.
There are two primary elements to SEO, on-site and off-site. On-site SEO ensures your website is optimised for search engines by including relevant keywords in urls, alt text, tags, etc., assigning authorship, ensuring there are no broken links, and implementing webmaster tools, just to name a few. So, if on-site SEO deals with your website, then it would be safe to say off-site SEO focuses on other websites—yup!
On-site SEO ensures your website can be found, off-site SEO increases the chances of it being found. One of the most effective off-site SEO strategies is link building. Link building is when your website is linked to from other relevant websites. Let’s go back to our computer repair shop in Northampton. We always advise our clients to start a blog which helps tremendously with SEO. So let’s say the computer repair shop posts something about installing new RAM on a MacBook Pro. The computer repair shop is friends with a local blogger that discusses Apple products, so they ask if the blogger would link to their post and in exchange they will link to their blog in a future post. It’s mutually beneficial, so both naturally agree. And there you have it, basic link building! Of course, this is just one element, there are many other things you can do to enhance your off-site SEO.
One important thing to note is SEO takes time, effort, and is an on-going process. Depending on how competitive the market is, it could take several months before your website gets to the front page of Google, but, don’t let this discourage you! JammCat can help expedite this process, and the potential ROI is extremely high. The fact of the matter is, a lot of small businesses don’t invest in web design, SEO, or ecommerce—but, we are trying to change that. You can get a leg up on many of your competitors by investing in SEO and other online services, and more likely than not, it will pay for itself many times over.
We could write all day about SEO, but this is a good stopping point. If you want to learn more about our services and what JammCat can do for your business, feel free to contact us!
